Originally from South Africa, Mark Stiebel has been a qualified lawyer in both South Africa and England and Wales since 2001 and has also practiced in Singapore. Much of his caseload has an international dimension, particularly in relation to family arrangements and law, human rights and environmental conservation.
His interest in human rights developed while growing up in South Africa where he was exposed to many Human Rights abuses. He documented these abuses as a journalist along with environmental issues for the Argus/Independent Group in South Africa covering the decline of apartheid and the creation the new South Africa.
Mark has substantial experience of commercial litigation and arbitration and is a committed advocate of mediation. He has served as a trustee and chairperson of Lambeth Mediation in his spare time and finds ways to utilise all forms of alternative dispute resolution in appropriate cases.
Mark has advised on many aspects of safeguarding in his family practice, his litigation practice and the general advice his client’s require in dealing with local councils and various governmental agencies and stakeholders in numerous jurisdictions. Mark’s expertise also covers challenging child arrangement cases, in particular applications to relocate children abroad, and cases concerning domestic abuse. He has a particular interest in cases relating to coercive and controlling behaviour.
Mark is a member of Resolution. He enjoys travel and photography.
